For the Audi Chairman Dr. Martin Winterkorn, the Q7 is the coupé behind the off-road vehicle. In terms of its dimensions - with a length of 5.09 metres, for example, this SUV from Audi is 33 centimetres longer than a VW Touareg - the Q7 at the same time boasts an imposing presence on the road.
Advance sales of the Audi Q7 have already begun; however, the all-terrain four-wheel-drive car will only become available in spring 2006. The launch of the Q7 is being accompanied by an extensive advertising campaign.
The Audi RS 4 came out top in a sports car comparison with the Porsche Carrera 911 4S. The 4.2-litre V8 FSI engine on the RS 4 activates an impressive output of 420 bhp, whereas the 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine on the Porsche produces an output of 355 bhp.
In an interview with the newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” Audi Board Chairman Dr. Martin Winterkorn announced that Audi was well on the way to reach its target of selling 800,000 cars this year.
In the “Auto Bild” comparison two lifestyle estate cars with powerful diesel engines, namely the Audi A6 Avant 2.7 TDI and the Volvo V70 D5, were pitted against each other. The new Audi RS 4 comes with an eight-cylinder petrol engine which develops a mighty 414 bhp. The engine, which features petrol direct injection, manages without turbo assistance and is highly impressive for its spontaneous response as well its exceptionally free-revving nature.
The Audi V8 S4 Avant and the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S coupé have been pitted against each other by way of comparison. Its avaricious, trapezoidal radiator grille, its bullish, high-performance brake system and its sports spoiler unit give the S4 Avant an exceptionally sporty look.
Audi chairman Dr. Martin Winterkorn predicts that 2005 will be a good year for successful car manufacturers, which naturally includes Audi, too. Whether there will be a sustained change for the better for the entire car industry in Germany will depend not least of all on the outcome of the general election in Germany.
Elements of pioneering technology come together beneath the unitary body of the Audi Q7, and will be implemented in other Audi models in the near future. For the first time, the new V8 FSI engines play an important role here.
